The Week In Crime: A Pickpocket, a Good Citizen and a Disgruntled Ex-roommate

The 88th Precinct saw an increase in crime, with 32 crimes reported between Oct. 24 and Oct. 30, compared to only 22 the week before. Halloween may have been partly to blame for the increase in activity, police said, due to the heightened activity of the holiday weekend.

Two 13-year-olds and a 16-year-old make up some of the nine people arrested this week, continuing the trend of underage criminal activity. Five more iPhone thefts have been reported, in addition to three stolen bicycles and $600 stolen from inside a microwave. But one noble citizen was able to save a 12-year-old boy by intervening when two others attacked him, police said.

A Good Citizen Intervenes

-Two 13-year-old boys were arrested on Oct. 28 in connection with the Oct. 3 attempted mugging of a 12-year-old boy on Lafayette Avenue, police said. The victim was walking home from school when he was punched in the face by one of them, police said. The victim fell to the ground as both attackers continued to beat him, police said. “Where is your phone,” yelled one of the attackers as he grabbed the victim by the arm, police said.
