I had to take the rubber rails and the outer case off the Hitachi drive in order to fit it inside the NexStar caddy... it's a very snug fit and the extra screws and protective case had to come off. But then NexStar provided a screwdriver anyway :-)

Hitachi & LG plead guilty to price fixing, accept $21M fine
Hitachi-LG Data Storage, an entity owned by Hitachi and LG, has admitted to 15 criminal counts related to price fixing on components for consumer electronics devices.
The judge in the case sentenced the guilty parties to a $21.1 million fine.
The two companies’ joint venture has been under investigation for the past several years due to concerns about price-fixing collusion on optical disk drives — that is, drives for DVD players, CD players and Blu-ray players, particularly those found in laptops and desktop computers.
The collusion has been going on since at least 2004. At that time, representatives of Hitachi-LG stated in court, the company was working with others to fix prices on optical disk drives sold to companies including HP, Dell and Microsoft.

Neowin.net - Hitachi creates 7mm thin 500gb laptop hard drive
Hitachi has developed a 500GB 7mm thin single-platter hard drive, dubbed the Travelstar Z5K500. The single platter disk drive has a density of 636GBit/inch, and uses the Advanced Form drive specification which increases the sector size on drives from 512 bytes to 4KB. Advanced format drives utilize hard drive surface area better, allowing for higher storage densities and better error correction methods. The Travelstar Z5K500 also features an 8MB cache and a SATA 3Gbit/sec interface.
According to Computerworld , the Travelstar Z5K50 will be available in a variety of flavors; including 500GB, 320GB, and 250GB models and has been designed for use primarly in laptops and other mobile devices.
Brendan Colins, VP of Hitachi marketing spoke of small form factor devices stating, “Ultra thin and light devices are, without argument, a growing trend. In order for these innovative designs to live up to their true potential, they need rugged, reliable high-capacity hard drives that can withstand the rigors of a portable environment and satisfy the storage demands of their end users, and Hitachi continues to deliver.”
