The Ultrabook, the MacBook Air equivalent for Windows users, has arrived. Acer's 13in Aspire S3 is the first of these new laptops to hit the Australian market. Upon seeing it, its smooth styling and thin design is likely to activate that particular zone in your brain that's responsible for telling you to go out and buy things. However, don't make any buying decisions just yet. Being first to market isn't always a good thing and we came away thinking that the Aspire S3 perhaps might not be as good as some of the Ultrabook models we're going to review from Acer's competitors.

Don't get us wrong, the Aspire S3 is a clever device and it's very capable of handling everyday computing tasks and more, but at 1.35kg — and it seems a little crazy to say this — it does feel like it's a little too heavy. The thing is, if you're used to carrying around a 15in notebook, or even a smaller 13in model with a 1.5-2kg weight, the 1.35kg of the Acer S3 will be a Godsend. But if you've handled many thin and light notebooks before, you'll probably think that this model could have been made lighter.

i currently have a 40 gig laptop hard drive 4200 rpm,i wanted to know if i should upgrade to a hitachi a 100 gig 5400 rpm with 8mb cashe or a toshiba 100 gig with a 16 mb cashe,or a 7200 rpm hitachi 80 gig with 8mb cashe, which will work better in my

The retail kit the Deskstar 7K3000 is available now for $ 250.

Hitachi GST has begun shipping its first hard disk with 3 TB capacity and thus Western Digital’s WD30EZRSDTL open-minded. The model Deskstar 7K3000 creates 7200 U. / min, the variant Deskstar 5K3000 maximum of 5400 rpm.

The faster drive features 64 MB cache and a SATA interface with a throughput of 6 Gbps So as to achieve the manufacturer’s instructions transfer rates of up to 207 MByte / s.

At idle, takes on the Deskstar 7k3000 6.8 watts. A mean time between failures (Mean Time Between Failures, MTBF) does not specify Hitachi GST. The error rate is 1 to 1014.

The slower Deskstar 5K3000 uses Hitachi CoolSpin technology: It has a special engine that will consume during the spin-up phase less power than other 3.5-inch hard drives. The savings compared to the Hitachi 7K3000 estimated at 29 percent. Another advantage is to be the low operating temperature.

Hitachi plans to recall about 16,000 laptop battery packs made by Sony, the latest in a massive global recall of the batteries that can overheat and catch fire. The battery packs were installed in the company's Flora 210W and Flora Se210 laptop personal computers for the Japanese market, Hitachi spokesman Masahiro Takahashi said Friday.
