My HP Pavillion laptop's battery needs to be replaced and there is a sticker on it that says "Replace with HP Spare", along with numbers and a bar code. Does this mean there already exists a free spare for me?

No they are not free. And depending on the laptop type they are actually expensive about $100. But I got one on ebay for about $20.
