And maybe we did do that here with the Vostro. Dell’s late-2011 Vostro V131 addresses most of the issues that we had with its predecessor, the Vostro V130 , when we reviewed it in 2010. This more-recent result is a full-powered, long-running, highly functional—and still quite stylish—small-business laptop.

Chief among the changes from last year’s model was Dell's smart decision to replace the sealed-in-place, tiny three-cell battery with a removable six-cell one. Now, the Vostro V131 not only runs longer, but it does so while scrapping the V130’s low-voltage CPU for a standard-voltage (and more powerful) Core i5 processor.

The design of this 13.3-inch system hasn’t changed too much. The Vostro V131 is still thin, and it still comes in red (silver, too). The ports have been moved from their less-convenient location on the laptop's back edge to the sides, and Dell added USB 3.0 connectivity in the process. The keyboard, too, is new and improved, with Chiclet-style, backlit keys.
