The Sandy Bridge Extreme processors add new overclocking mechanisms, like designating limits on sustained and burst-mode current draw, as well as returning old ones such as BCLK adjustments. I imagine the next few months will be busy ones for the enthusiast community as they explore the new features and capabilities of these CPUs. Unfortunately, we're limited for this review by both time and the unavailability of any high-end LGA2011 CPU coolers, so our overclocking results should be regarded as preliminary. That said, I easily achieved a solid 4.6GHz running on all cores under sustained load with only a few adjustments.

To see how this processor/chipset performs against the best AMD offers and Intel's previous top-of-the-line setups, I included the systems listed below. Each test system used the same hard drive, memory (with the exception of the AMD system), and graphics card. Note that there are two X79 Express systems: a prototype Intel DX79SI motherboard as well as the ASUS P9X79 Pro. Note that when I speak of how the 3960X performed compared to the other CPUs in the test, I'm speaking of the stock-clocked results on the ASUS P9X79 unless I specify otherwise.

It was purchased the summer or 2004. It was lying on my couch charging when I accidentally knocked it off. The connector inside the computer (plastic) broke to pieces. I can not plug the computer into charge it or run it. The charger is in OK condition.

ASUS didn't call out the port in their port diagram in the manual, so I missed it. I'll update the review to reflect this. The best part about that BIOS Flashback is that you can flash the BIOS even with no CPU or RAM in the motherboard.

On the C drive it is entitled "OS" obviously for the Operating System. The D drive is "DATA". I am not sure exactly why this is done and as it would happen information that I store such as my programs (MS Office, Paintshop Pro) as well as my Itunes program and library, Word documents, etc., all defaulted directly to my C drive. The end result is that my "C" drive is full in a rather new laptop. I do realize I must move this information on the "C" drive over to either the "D" or the "G" - the one Tera byte Western Digital external hard drive I bought. It blows my mind how many manufacturers have cheaped out to the point of not spending the fifty cents or so it would cost to include a mass-produced system restore DVD with a new...
